The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is known as ‘New Zealand’s best one day walk’, and each year, more than 100,000 people experience this spectacular trek.

The legendary Tongariro Alpine Crossing takes you over volcanic terrain that is as varied as it is breath-taking.
You’ll see natural hot springs ‘hidden’ in the mountains, ancient lava formations, waterfalls that flow from crisp mountain streams, iridescent crater lakes (the Emerald Lakes, Blue Lake and the Red Crater) and lush forest.

This 7 to 8 hour journey is a ‘must-experience’ while visiting Tongariro National Park during summer or spring.
