Tongariro National Park is nature’s playground – a landscape that offers guests a huge diversity of experiences to enjoy and scenery to marvel at.

You can ski down the snow-covered slopes of an active volcano in winter or spring, on New Zealand’s largest commercial ski field. You can soar above, or hike to, the amazing crater lakes, lush alpine meadows and moon-like landscapes that are uncovered when the winter snow melts.

Gorgeous waterfalls, glittering river pools and several lakes call you to boat, raft, swim, kayak or picnic. Horse-trekking, quad-biking, bungy-jumping, rock-climbing, sky-diving, mountain-biking and more will get your adrenalin-pumping.

Much of the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed right here in this magnificent National Park – and you can take a guided tour of many of the locations, including Mount Doom.
