Chateau Tongariro sits on lush forested slopes that lie within Tongariro National Park in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island. The hotel is roughly midway between the cities of Auckland and Wellington, which are both around 4 hours away by car. Offering views of the majestic volcanic peaks of Mount Ruapehu and Mount Ngauruhoe, the hotel is only 7 km from Whakapapa, the largest ski field in New Zealand. Visitors can enjoy skiing on mountain pistes from June to October. The surrounding area’s breathtaking scenery encompasses beech forests, lakes, rapids and waterfalls, while the Tongariro Alpine Crossing offers world-renowned trekking opportunities.
How to get here
Train, Bus And Activity Transfers
Train and bus transfers are available to and from the National Park Village to Chateau Tongariro at a cost of NZD 15 per person per way, applicable for both adults and children. Return tickets will cost NZD 30.
Please advise us at the time of booking or no later than 24 hours prior to arrival to ensure our transport partner Dempsey is waiting for you.
If you are arriving by bus, please advise us the bus company, scheduled arrival time and direction travelling from to ensure Dempsey Buses personnel are waiting at the correct location and time at the village.
You may charge your transfers to your room account. Prices are accurate as at 1st July 2019 and are subject to change.
Dempsey are also shuttle providers to the Tongariro Crossing and ski slopes. Simply book your trip with Reception a minimum of 30 mins before departure time.
